Helsinki Design Week 2013

Last week we had the great opportunity to enjoy a great display of design and art in Helsinki.
At the beautiful old warehouse  in Katajanokka was set a fantastic sample of what is now going on in the design world, Scandinavian and also European.
Workshops were also running during the weekend, and non stop activities for adults and kids .
Some of the brands that we could enjoy were, Marimekko, Iittala, Hays, Pelago bikes, Muuto and many more.
Hope that events like this would happen more often!

The little artists

Today I got my kids into a photographic session that I wanted to do long time ago, but sometimes is easier to photograph everyone´s kids but your own :).
So, last may I had the oportunity to discover and participate in one of the most original happenings in Helsinki, so called "The cleaning day" or "Siivouspäivä". On this day, the whole city turned into a street market, where people sold everything they didn´t need anymore. From bikes to skirts, toys, guitars, shoes...anything! Helsinki was a huge recycling center. As part of this happening, was placed in Lasipalatsi square, a container, with 6 sewing machines, and loads of remnants  from the well known Marimekko design company. 
The idea behind this, was, to use this leftovers and  sew something new. There, to guide everyone, was the incredible girls, Mari Savio, Lotta Charlotte, Heta, Oona... They were the ones that helped me to start what is becoming my new hobby.  
For Lukas I did the shorts, and Noa the dress in black, white and red pattern. They are my first ever handmade clothes, and I have the feeling that more will come.
The other dress that Noa is wearing is from Cos.

Cuentos expatriados

This is the title of the first book that David Gambarte has published. Is a compilation of ten stories, impeccably writen, full of emotion and emptyness, fear, love, passion, human behaviour through the magnifying glass... None of the stories or the characters will leave you indifferent.
David asked me to do the cover for his book, and I have to said that it has been a great honour to be part of this his first project. From here I want ot congratulate and wish the best to him!

Reason loves...

...Emotion. As reads the title of this post, this equation was the slogan for the new image of the previously mentioned Agency Cul de Sac in Valencia.
They wanted a picture that will go with the new slogan of the company, and after much thinking, this is the result.
Design plus nature, reason and emotion. I also wanted that when looking at the picture you want to keep your eye on it...just in case something else happened, and that the person that is looking at it, could feel for a second, the pause that creates tension.
I want to thank my dear friend Christian , for been with me and help me during this shooting . It would have been impossible to work under the windy stormy weather!
